What can yoga help with?

When you think of yoga you typically think about stretching. There is SO much more to it than that! The benefits of yoga are endless but here are a few:

  • helps with back pain

  • aids strength and flexibility

  • improves posture and protects your spine

  • improves your mood and wellbeing

  • hormone imbalances

  • relieves stress, anxiety and depression

  • helps with blood flow and lymph drainage

  • good for balance and fall prevention

  • improves sleep

  • better concentration

Yoga was historically a practice to settle the body to prepare for meditation. The aim being to balance the mind, body and spirit. That balance is still the aim, now more than ever.

What is 1-2-1 Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy uses the techniques of yoga, the postures, breathing and meditation tools, to address specific health complaints. The session is personalised to the student and is different from a group class. The aim, as with all styles of yoga, is to empower the student to improve their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

Yoga therapy can be can be the perfect bridge between hands on bodywork and a group yoga class. There are many reasons a student may choose a 1-2-1 yoga therapy session:

Rehab following an injury

1-2-1 sessions are the perfect progression as you recover from the painful phase of a particular complaint or injury. They really compliment your hands on bodywork. These sessions focus on rehab of the specific area and then progress to address the whole body and any imbalances that may have contributed to your complaint. The overall aim is to prevent future episodes.

Focussing on specifics

Maybe you think you have tight hamstrings or would like to work on hip mobility. Maybe you sit at a desk and struggle with tension. Perhaps you just have no energy! We can work on whatever you think needs a little attention and give you things to work on at home.

Mental clarity

Yoga, as well as various breathing techniques, can be used as a tool to stimulate or pacify the mind. When we feel in balance, we find that sweet spot of clarity. 1-2-1 sessions are tailored to your needs, which may be different on any given day. I encourage you to take what you learn on the mat and use it day to day, as you learn to harness the power of your own mind.

Beginner yoga

If you’ve never practiced yoga before and would find a class daunting, 1-2-1 sessions would be beneficial. You may always prefer that environment or it may just give you the confidence and experience you need to join a class.

It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self, and intelligence.
