What is tennis elbow?

We are concerned with Tennis Elbow arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck, but not isolated occurrences.

Most people who develop Tennis Elbow – don’t play tennis! It is usually caused when the muscles and tendons of your forearm become damaged by overuse. This happens when you repeat the same action over and over.

Depending on the severity, Tennis Elbow can last from weeks to years. Sometimes people feel a mild ache but unfortunately, some people feel severe pain that can wake them up at night. Symptoms can be lingering, limiting and frustrating! Sometimes even pouring the kettle or holding your coffee cup can be painful!

What are the symptoms of tennis elbow?

  • There is pain along the outside of the elbow

  • Pain increases when you flex the wrist down with the elbow straight

  • It also increases when you resist extension of the wrist

  • There may be decreased grip strength

What is the treatment for tennis elbow?

The first thing you should do is identify the activity that causes the pain and stop doing it or at least reduce it. We have to minimise that repetitive stress! Also try and avoid gripping.

Mobilisation with exercise is an effective treatment choice for Tennis Elbow.

Acknowledge where you are and start from there.
